No permanent friends, enemies if govt doesn’t have strong majority, says Puad

PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi says there will be no long-lasting political friends or enemies as long as the government does not hold a strong majority.
In a Facebook post, Puad said this was part of the “new norms” of politics that was no longer as rigid and coalition-centric, with cooperation between any political parties a possibility.
He was commenting on recent developments in Perak, where PKR and DAP assemblymen supported Umno’s no-confidence motion against the now-deposed menteri besar, Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
“Although Umno has its ‘No PKR and no DAP’ stand, the motion was still supported. That means political stands will not easily hinder the new political dynamics.
“Umno cannot be apologetic, being afraid of getting accused as power hungry or kissing the enemy. Umno’s motion was necessary to change a menteri besar who had failed.
“Perak has paved the way for new political norms. Is that a signal to Muhyiddin? It’s not impossible for this to happen at the federal level,” he said.
Puad said the weak majority commanded by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government meant that it could not govern effectively, questioning whether Umno should remain embroiled in this.
He said this called for a departure from the “old cocoon” of politics and to embrace the new normal.
“There are no lasting political enemies and friends as long as a government with a two-thirds majority doesn’t exist. Be ready for the new political norms,” he said.

So funny now UMNO needs steady DAP to survive. Ayam sure the Lims will consider.....but the 3Rs will surely object....Ronnie, Ramkarpal and Ramasamy. But nobody will quit or get kicked out, still 42.

No, it was the other way around.
This proves it, GST is a fair-weather tax. We all need to thank the provisional accountant cum book-keeper for trashing the most useless taxation system for Malaysia ever (except for the corrupted politicians and their cronies).

GST revival not an option for now, says finance ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Finance Minister Mohd Shahar Abdullah said today the goods and services tax (GST) scrapped in 2018 is not an option for the government to re-implement.
He said the government is looking at other measures for the benefit of the people and to strengthen the economy.
These include setting up a multi-agency task force to cut costs, look into ways to expand revenue and improve governance.
“We will review all the aspects first,” he said when replying to an additional question by Mohamad Sabu (PH-Kota Raja), who asked if the government will re-implement GST.

You have the opportunity to correct Harapan's "mistake" (but actually it was Wee KHAT Siong who introduced the teaching of Jawi/Khat back in 2003 when he was Deputy Education Minister).

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has no plans to back down on the teaching of Jawi in national and vernacular schools.
Deputy Education Minister Muslimin Yahaya said his ministry would continue with the decision made by the previous PH government in August 2019 to have Jawi taught in vernacular schools.
“This was a decision made by the Cabinet then and we at the education ministry, at policy level, will abide by the decision,” he said.
He further said Jawi lessons should not be seen in a negative light as it was merely to recognise words such as those seen on the Malaysian currency notes.

The Jawi subject controversy was a legacy of the former government, as after the final decision of the Education Ministry Curriculum Committee on Sept 21, 2015, it became an administrative matter for the relevant Education Ministry divisions to implement the policy decision.
If there had been no change of government in the 14th general election on May 9, 2018, the implementation of the Education Ministry decision on new curriculum in September 2015 would result in students in Chinese/Tamil primary schools from Std IV upwards to learn to read, write and to be examined in Jawi.
But, as a result of the intervention of the DAP ministers in the current cabinet, Jawi is now an optional result and it is not necessary for Chinese and Tamil primary school students to learn to read, write or to be examined in Jawi....
