Malaysiakini:

Bersatu Youth chief: 'Only one party for Malays' myth is over

Malaysiakini

Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has called for “sincere” cooperation among Malay-based political parties.

Speaking at the “Half A Year of the PN Administration” convention in Kuala Lumpur this evening, he opined it was progress for the Malays to be represented by multiple fronts.

“Post GE14 (14th general election), I feel that the Malays now have a choice.

“They have emerged from that old thinking where there is only one Malay party.

“I feel like that is a myth that is now over (with) the presence of Bersatu, Amanah and PKR. Although PKR does not look like a Malay party, it is led by Malay leaders,” he said during his speech.

Elaborating, he called for unity among Malay-based parties.

“The diversity of Malay parties should not be turned into a weakness. Instead, if there is room for cooperation [...] this should be supported,” he said.

“I think the political formula championed by (Prime Minister) Muhyiddin Yassin together with the leaders of big Malay parties like Umno and PAS is something that needs to be explored fairly and sincerely [...],” Wan Fayhsal added.

The Youth and Sports deputy minister’s comments come as Bersatu and Umno face several flashpoints.

Umno has refused to be an official member of the PN pact and has made bold demands as component parties discuss GE15 seat allocations.

Meanwhile, Umno and Bersatu have reportedly nominated respective candidates ahead of tomorrow’s vote for the next Dewan Negara president.

Bersatu has since applied to join and been accepted into Umno-PAS pact Muafakat Nasional.

Today’s convention was attended by Bersatu president Muhyiddin, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and PAS Youth chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin.

Umno president Zahid Hamidi and Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki were supposed to attend the event but did not show up as they are in Sabah ahead of the Sept 26 state election.

Organised by Pertubuhan Intelektual Negara (National Intellectual Body), the convention featured a slew of academics commenting on PN’s performance during its six-month tenure.

  2. Malaysian politics have evolved to one that cares only about malay welfare.

The nons are collateral damage and are totally irrelevant-to be used as a punching bag or as a piece of rag to wipe the table

What happened to "Malaysia, Truly Asia?"
