Support for Dr M could dent DAP’s Chinese backing

FMT:

Support for Dr M could dent DAP’s Chinese backing, says analyst

Political analyst Awang Azman Awang Pawi says DAP’s support for Dr Mahathir Mohamad instead of Anwar Ibrahim as Pakatan Harapan’s prime ministerial candidate could hurt its support base

PETALING JAYA: A political analyst warns that DAP’s support for Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) candidate for prime minister again could put a dent in its grassroots backing, as cracks in the coalition widen amid disputes over its nominee for the country’s top post.

Universiti Malaya’s Awang Azman Awang Pawi said DAP’s call for PKR to agree on Mahathir as PH’s candidate instead of Anwar Ibrahim might not sit well with its supporters.

He said DAP’s rejection of Anwar, who leads the multiracial PKR, and support for Mahathir, the former chairman of PPBM, could push Chinese voters to PKR.

“DAP should be working with PKR, its long-time ally, to build a strong opposition rather than Mahathir,” he told FMT, adding however that this might make it difficult for PKR to win the support of the Malays.

Still, he said, the Malays might also find it hard to accept Mahathir as prime minister again as he had resigned from the post in February against the wishes of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

“DAP is not considering this sensitivity,” he said. “The party should be focused on changing its image so that it is accepted by the Malays.”

He also spoke of reservations on social media about Mahathir’s return to helm the country for the third time.

“DAP supporters are more inclined to a vision of a multiracial Malaysia, and this is something people associate more with Anwar than with Mahathir, who is a Malay nationalist,” he said.

Mahathir held a Malay Dignity Congress to which he invited PAS and UMNO. There racist diatribes were uttered shamelessly and hurled at non-Malay Malaysians, who a racist Mahathir (BTW then as a Pakatan Harapan PM) referred to as 'orang asing' (foreigners)

“At the same time, people will ask why DAP wants Mahathir to become prime minister again so badly, as if there are no other options.”

If a man fucks you once, get the fuck out He will fuck you again ...

Malaysiakini previously reported DAP’s organising secretary Loke Siew Fook urging PKR to support Mahathir as the coalition’s prime ministerial candidate as the other PH components had agreed to it.

However, Awang Azman said PKR should stand its ground as PH would not have been able to capture Putrajaya without its support and Anwar’s acceptance of Mahathir as an ally before the 2018 general election.

“Without PKR and the MPs aligned with Anwar, it would be quite difficult for PH-Plus to form the government,” he said, referring to the remaining parties in PH, its Sabah-based ally Warisan and the four MPs who lost their PPBM memberships along with Mahathir.

The DAP has been so confident (some would say "overconfident") in its belief that the party still has 95% of Chinese support including the majority of Indian backing, such has been its success in convincing Chinese & Indian Malaysians in pre GE14 to vote the Rocket Party in its fight against the 'kleptomania' BN regime. Of course the irony of that DAP propaganda lies in the following images:

This manipulative deception has been worse than its rubbery pre-election manifesto which had long bounced like a bad cheque into the longkang.

That's the 'rubbery' honour of the DAP's chosen leader

Confucius: “I used to take on trust a man's deeds after having listened to his words. Now having listened to a man's words I go on to observe his deeds”

And this leader chosen by the DAP's highest echelon non-Malay Malaysians, who had,
then as a Pakatan Harapan PM, referred to non-Malay Malaysian citizens as 'orang asing' (foreigners) in a forum to which he had invited leaders from UMNO and PAS.

But such have been the eagerness and avarice to returning to power and to rule Malaysia that the Rocket Party which I once adored, respected and supported has turned into the very being it criticises other parties of becoming.

As one of my Sarawak FB mateys Loong Wong wrote in his FB page (extracts only and contextually faithfully edited-revised by kaytee):

The DAP through the very public announcement by Anthony Loke for PKR to state its stand behind Anwar in the DAP's proposal for a Mahathir-Anwar combo, has effectively and politically executed Anwar, while supporting Mahathir.

The Azmin Ali's Sheraton Move was meant to stop Anwar and finished him off, which BTW it did, but the mentioned Loke's announcement ensured Anwar would be politically dead. It has been an extremely unfaithful and treacherous coup de grâce by the Rocket Party. And that has been why it so emotionally galvanised a usually already-emotional Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak to bemoan:

"Is this how you repay Anwar for a friendship built over 20 years?

"Anwar faced many challenges and was often labelled as being too liberal and distant from the Malay community for his loyalty to DAP."

Yes, it has been a
 coup de grâce.

The revised (post 24 Feb 20) PH is a coalition comprising ONLY the PKR, Amanah and DAP, and does NOT include Mahathir's paltry few that has remained with him after his former PPBM plus his blue-eyed boy ran across to form Perikatan Nasional (PN) with PAS and UMNO.

Mind, not that Mahathir hadn't thought of joining them whilst treacherously abandoning the DAP and Anwar's faction of PKR, but he had wanted far too many conditions and Azmin and Muhyiddin couldn't wait any longer for such a demanding old man.

Meanwhile, what has been left of the Harapan coalition appointed Anwar as its leader. But Mahathir, realising he has been left out on a limb by his former lieutenants (Azmin and Muhyiddin) then grasps desperately at Harapan again. Thus when it came to the showdown in Harapan, the DAP and Amanah broke ranks with post-24-Feb-20 leader (Anwar) and scurried furtively back to Mahathir, believing the old man has Sabah's Warisan support.

Such has been the DAP KHAT faction's greed for power that it has totally ignored the wise words of Sangeeta and Ramkarpal, both sterling children of the redoubtable (late) Karpal Singh, correctly described as the spiritual leader of the DAP, to wit:

"In politics there are no permanent friends or foes, but there MUST be permanent principles."

Alas, with the sad departure of Karpal Singh from the political scene, the Rocket Party under the KHAT faction seems to be totally devoid of 'PRINCIPLES'.

The KHAT faction has chosen a very treacherous Mahathir as its leader, despite and in spite of the fact that Mahathir has so treacherously betrayed Pakatan Harapan government, resigning abruptly as PM without even consulting his cabinet colleagues or Harapan allies, just to form either:

(a) his "own" party-less government in which he can roost unaccountably as Pharaoh again, or

(b) a Malay-Only government in alliance with PAS and UMNO.

Yes, the KHAT faction of DAP prefers a man who has openly said he does NOT like Anwar nor the DAP, over an old friend like Anwar.

Is that how honourable people of goodwill, integrity who are trustworthy behaved?

What it has shown has been how the purportedly junzi (honourable people) cares about their own power and ambitions. In Mandarin, these people are the wei junzi (despicable and false honourable people). who mask their naked ambitions as acting for the public and greater good!!

If you read a little about Chinese history or even watch Chinese wuxia movies, the DAP is really more like the dreaded and feared Jing Yi Wei (Royal Guard) who served the political eunuchs in killing off their enemies.

The DAP has finished off its internal critics quite ruthlessly in typical Stalinist style. It has learnt from the PAP in Singapore - kill off your critics and ensure there's no retreat for them. To get rid of them, you have to uproot them - zhan cao cu gen (斩草除根), and today, the DAP is just a bevy of stormtroopers (the Jing Yi Wei) loyal to its eunuch numero uno, (LKS ) and his KHAT dynasty.

The Jing Yi Wei has never been loyal to the emperor but to the head eunuch. Indeed, we have seen how LKS and his DAP KHAT faction suck up to Mahathir prior the 2018 elections, and during the 22 months of office. Even when out of government, the KHAT faction has NEVER stopped politicking despite calling on PN to do so as Covid-19 unfolds and is progressing.

Avarice betrays all.

The superior man understands what is right; the inferior man understands what will sell. - Confucius
