Will IGP Bador act in re-investigation of Teoh Beng Hock's alleged murder?

Kaytee recalls when as a kid, my bigger cousin would bully me by holding me by my trousers belt over the edge of a 6 to 7 metres high cliff where below was a deep kolam (pool), just to get his kicks out of frightening poor sweet kaytee.

One day sh*t happened and my belt snapped. He was left with a portion of my belt while I and the other portion plummeted down the cliff, fortunately into the kolam - SPLASHHHHhhhhhh.

Both of us had a scare and eventually a laugh. But I wonder what would have been the outcome in our respective lives if there wasn’t a deep kolam at the bottom of the cliff?

... which kinda brings me to a letter written to Malaysiakini published in an article 10 years ago, on 20 August 2009, reproduced below:

The mystery letter which emerged at the Teoh Beng Hock inquest yesterday is believed to contain claims connecting a top ranking MACC officer to the interrogation of the political aide, which could have led to his death.

Believed to be written by a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission insider, the letter alleged how the top officer and an influential politician had worked together to start investigations into alleged corrupt practises by Selangor's Pakatan Rakyat leaders.

And it was on this understanding that Teoh was called up for questioning.

The unsigned letter, which carried the MACC official letterhead and written in Bahasa Malaysia, also stated the top officer's modus of interrogation - which involves pulling the suspects by the belt.

It further alleged that the top official was questioning Teoh on the day the DAP man was found dead. However the letter did not state on how Teoh died or if the officer was directly involved in his death.

Further claims made in the letter include:

  • The officer did not punch out from work when he left Plaza Masalam where the Selangor MACC is located on that day. However, the letter stated the time of him leaving the office. This is important as it could show that this officer was the last person to have seen Teoh on that day, alleged the letter.
  • The officer did not provide his DNA samples along with his other colleagues. He only gave a sample privately at a later day.
  • That he ordered his officers to wipe clean the window from where Teoh had apparently fallen from.
  • His alleged corrupt practices while investigating previous cases and that he is generally corrupt.
  • He had helped close an investigation on the politician.

The letter also stated that the top officer had been serving in the state for a long time, well beyond the usual five-year term for high ranking officials.

The letter also claimed that he was living beyond his means by having several houses, a petrol station in Shah Alam and several plots of land, courtesy of the politician's goodwill.

He was also allegedly caught for khalwat with his junior officer at the Shah Alam lake early this year.

When contacted, Selangor opposition leader Dr Mohd Khir Toyo - who was the politician named in the letter - denied all the claims made in the letter and said he will be lodging a police report as soon as he is back from his overseas trip.

The MACC officer could not be contacted.

Lawyers remain tight-lipped

Yesterday, lawyer Gobind Singh Deo submitted the letter to coroner Azmil Muntapha Abas, asking him to adjourn the inquest pending an investigation into the contents of the letter.

Gobind Deo
once an Opposition hero, now ...?

Gobind said that he was handed the letter by an individual on Tuesday evening.

Azmil, who agreed to instruct the police to probe the letter, had then urged all lawyers involved in the case not to reveal the details of the letter to anyone. However he had not ordered a gag order on the matter.

Lawyers involved in the matter when contacted by Malaysiakini today remained tight-lipped on the content of the letter.

However, it is learnt that the letter was also sent out to several other people since last week, including some members of parliament.

One MP who spoke to Malaysiakini said that he received the letter last week and confirmed the contents of the letter.

"Some big names were mentioned in the letter and the claims are massive. If they are true, some very big people from Selangor MACC and the political circle will have to pay the price," he said, requesting anonymity.

The MP also said that the letter appeared to be "an inside job from MACC".

He added that the letterhead used was from the MACC's headquarters in Putrajaya.

Teoh Beng Hock
murdered on eve of his wedding

Teoh was found dead, with his belt snapped, at the fifth floor landing of Plaza Masalam on July 16, a day after he was summoned by the MACC for questioning in regards to their probe into an alleged misappropriation of state allocation funds. He was questioned at the 14th floor.

The inquest is being held to determine how he died. It will continue on Monday pending the investigation into the letter.

The letter has also been posted in the Internet at various sites, including in Malaysia Today.

10 years later, on 24 August 2019, FMT published
Test former MACC official’s DNA again, urges Beng Hock group, its content as follows:

Teoh Beng Hock Trust for Democracy spokesman Ng Yap Hwa (second from right) and representatives of the group after lodging a police report at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters

PETALING JAYA: A group dedicated to seeking justice for political aide Teoh Beng Hock has called on the police to reopen investigations into former Selangor Malaysian-Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy director Hishamuddin Hashim.

The Teoh Beng Hock Trust for Democracy also urged the police to recollect DNA samples from Hishamuddin and cross-examine it with the unknown DNA found on Teoh’s body and clothes.

After lodging a report at the district police headquarters here today, the group’s spokesman, Ng Yap Hwa, said the cops must probe claims made by MACC insiders through a letter sent in 2009.

The letter, which used MACC’s letterhead, was sent to then Selangor menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim.

The letter raised suspicion over Hishamuddin giving his DNA samples in the privacy of his office, when other officers gave their samples as a group in a conference room.

It added that the former deputy chief had a trademark interrogation technique of grabbing a person by the belt and then lifting and shaking them.

Ng said this meant that the mystery DNA on Teoh’s body and clothes could very well belong to Hishamuddin.

“We must ask why Hishamuddin got such special treatment,” he told reporters outside the police headquarters.

“Due to this, we think these aspects are worth being looked into again by the police during this new investigation,” he added.

Ng also expressed disappointment over the lack of developments despite fresh investigations by the police, saying there was no sign they were treating the case as a murder or homicide.

“The Selangor police team never calls us to provide additional information,” he said.

Hishamuddin, who most recently served as the anti-graft body’s intelligence division director for a period of time, was the officer in charge of the operation that led to Teoh’s death.

Earlier this month, the group urged the police to investigate 10 MACC officers for covering up Teoh’s death, abetting and attempting to cover up his death, giving false evidence and destroying evidence and also murder.

In 2009, Teoh, who was the political aide to then-Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam, hours after he was interrogated by Selangor MACC at its office on the 14th floor of the same building.

A royal commission of inquiry concluded that Teoh was driven to suicide by the aggressive interrogation methods used by MACC officers. It also blamed three officers for their aggressive methods which it said had violated procedures.

To reiterate, the letter also stated (from Star Online Teoh Inquest: Letter names officer and BN leader) that:

… the officer gave his DNA in the privacy of his office instead of the conference room where all the officers, including the state director, had assembled to be swabbed.

“Why was his DNA sample given in secrecy? Was it his own sample that was given? We MACC officers are puzzled why none of the samples extracted matched that of the mysterious male samples (found on Teoh’s blazer and belt).” […]

One incriminating accusation in the letter is about the method the officer used as his interrogation technique – by holding the front portion of a person’s belt and lifting him several times before shaking him.

(Government forensic pathologist Dr Khairul Azman Ibrahim had opined at the inquest earlier that it was possible that Teoh had been held up by the belt as it had a tear at the buckle region.)

We now need to see how IGP Bador will act to a long standing unresolved murder?

what a fCking hypocrite and traitor to Teoh Beng hock's family and his memory

and just one lousy year after his pathetic pompous speech vowing:

Beng Hock’s death would be “in vain” if firstly, his killers remain free and unpunished; and secondly, the MACC is not held responsible and liable for his death and instead allowed to “go to great lengths” to participate in a “cover-up” of the actual causes and circumstances of Beng Hock’s death at the TBH RCI, with MACC officers telling “lies after lies” at the RCI.

I call on Malaysians to stand for justice and to make a commitment that they will not rest until the “cover-up” of Teoh Beng Hock’s criminal and senseless murder is exposed and the killers, including MACC, are brought to justice.

We also need Latheefa Beebi Koya to investigate into allegations in said letter that the mentioned officer (now posted to Pahang) was living beyond his means by having several houses, a petrol station in Shah Alam and several plots of land, courtesy of the politician's goodwill.

Will Latheefa? Dares she? Or is the"New" Malaysia still the Old Mahathir Malaysia?
