Scholarships for Palestinians set off panic

MM Online informed us (extract):

shaking hands with Mahathir was Khalid Meshaal

Khalid Meshaal was famous worldwide when he was poisoned by Israeli agents-assassins in Amman, Jordan. The Israelis considered Khalid far too dangerous, thus o
n 25 September 1997, Israeli Mossad under orders from Israeli PM Binjamin Netanyahu tried to kill Khalid.
The late King Hussein saved him when Jordanian security arrested the Israelis and traded with Tel Aviv their release for the antidote to that poison - t'was also believed Yassin Arafat perished from the same type of poison

Initially Netanyahu refused to provide the antidote even at risk of Jordan voiding the 1994 peace agreement between Israel and Jordan, until US President Bill Clinton stepped in and compelled Netahyanu to comply

A total of 140 Palestinian seeking to further their higher education studies in Malaysia will be eligible under the RM11.48 million worth “Scholarship for Palestine” sponsorship as announced by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday.

When the PM yesterday said the government is offering scholarships to Palestinian students to pursue bachelor, masters, and PhD courses in 12 Malaysian universities, there were loud cries of protests from Malaysians from all walks of life that 'charity should begin at home'.

Their protests were against the PM's generous offer because it was incongruous with his (and Finance Minister's) constant moaning of national debts (blame directed of course at Najib, wakakaka), belt-tightening measures, forced cancellations of this & that project, etc, and when coupled with the real and depressing economic situation of Malaysia's hardships, was too hard to swallow.

Swift as a sparrow hawk, Datin Paduka Siti Hamisah Tapsir DG of the Higher Education Department came out to clarify that the scholarships offered were from 11 private universities and only one public university.

Nothing new lah, she explained that it has become a norm for local universities to offer scholarships annually to both local and foreign students ... yadda yadda yadda.

Meanwhile, the Star Online published (extracts):
Palestinian scholarships will not involve public funds, says DAP lawmaker

Dr Kelvin Yii

KUCHING: The scholarships for Palestinian students in Malaysia announced by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will not involve public funds, according to a DAP lawmaker.

Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii clarified that the scholarships worth RM11.47mil would come from funds generated by the universities themselves.

“They will not involve any government funding, or affect scholarships that are being offered to local Malaysians.

“This was confirmed by Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching upon verification after the announcement on Wednesday (May 22),” he said in a statement Thursday (May 23).

Wakakaka, if you want to believe that, yes lah, you're welcome to do so.

Strange isn't it, that it has to be the DAP inclusive of the recent silent-as-mouse Teo Nie Ching (in face of the matriculation brouhaha and the non-recognition of the UEC) who needs to come out to explain the scholarships for Palestinians are from the private sector? Wakakaka again.

nice dress Nie Ching, wakakaka

To me, it's plain obvious that the DAP has been driven out of the bush it was hiding under due to the beating of the public drums to mollify its 'constituencies'. Panic liao lah, wakakaka again.

And as for Mahathir, do you think he didn't offer the scholarships for his own political interests, namely, to win over the Heartland?

  1. This year, just as previous years, plenty of government scholarships were available to Malaysians.

  2. Yes the Harapan government should help poor Malaysians instead of foreigners, like this example below from Jibby's government, helping UEC graduates, but unfortunately they used stolen 1MDB money....so you see the sleight of hand...steal A LOT from the rakyat, give back a tiny bit and bask in the "glory" and MCA was complicit to it.

Using stolen money to do charity. Any organization with a "Yayasan" in its name should be investigated.

    50 students granted 1MDB scholarships worth RM2.25mil

KUALA LUMPUR: Fifty Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) top scorers have received academic grants worth RM2.25mil from Yayasan 1MDB to pursue their tertiary studies locally and abroad.

This is the second year the foundation has teamed up with Dong Jiao Zong (United Chinese School Committees Association and United Chinese School Teachers Association) and Huaren Education Foundation to provide financial aid to top students from Chinese independent schools.

Yayasan 1MDB, the corporate social responsibility arm of 1Malaysia Development Berhad, funded the grant while Dong Jiao Zong and Huaren selected the students based on merit.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said the scholarships showed that the Government had kept its promise to help students from Chinese independent schools.

Dr Chua said he hoped that recipients of the aid could improve themselves and that they, especially those studying overseas, would return to serve the country.

Each student will receive RM15,000 annually from the foundation, which comes without a bond, for the next three years.

An initial amount of RM750,000 for the first year’s grant was presented to the students by 1MDB chairman Tan Sri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin at the ceremony.

Dr Chua said the grant was one of the Government’s efforts to support students from Chinese independent schools.

“Currently, students from these schools are allowed to get National Higher Education Fund Corporation loans to further their studies.

“They are also allowed to use their UEC results to apply to teachers’ training colleges in the country,” he said.

He said a technical committee had been set up three months ago by the Higher Education Ministry to study how students from Chinese independent schools could apply for places at public institutions of higher learning with their UEC results.

Lodin said the grant programme was launched last year with the aim of encouraging its recipients to continue their quest for excellence and set high standards for themselves so that they could reach greater heights.

“The provision of educational awards and financial aid are just some of the ways in which we help Malaysian students build their long-term future,” he said.

PAS wants royal probe on alleged Tabung Haji fraud

    12 December 2018
    By Danial Dzulkifly

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 — A royal commission of inquiry (RCI) should be convened to fully investigate the allegation that Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH) was unlawfully paying out dividends while in deficit, said Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

The PAS president insisted that such a venue was needed to lend credence to what he described as bald allegations from a new minister, a jab at Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

“PAS views seriously the allegations within the country’s largest Islamic financial institution....

Hadi said the matter should come under the purview of the Conference of Malay Rulers, either via Parliament or his suggested RCI, so that they may evaluate the recommendations of the appointed independent auditor before these are decided by the government.

  4. I wonder how much it would cost the Govt. to actually offer scholarships for tertiary education for all Malaysians who are under the BSH ie B40 group?

It's just a matter of switching from an affirmative race based education policy to one of a Needs based where abuses of the current quota system based on race can also be avoided.

If social justice is the purpose, then clearly a quota system based on Needs which is colour blind will definitely be supported by all Malaysians.

  5. "t'was also believed Yassin Arafat perished from the same type of poison"
    You believe in fairy tales.

Yasser Arafat's death, including full autopsy, tissue and blood sample testing , overseen by French and Russian medical authorities, revealed no reason other than natural death.

Russia does a lot of shit stirring against the US and Israel, but to this day, Yasser Arafat's death is not one of the issues they try to pin on US or Israel.

    1. naturally a pro Israeli bloke like you would argue to the end why the Israelis are angelic

You'd also deny that Hamas was created by Israel to kacau Arafat. Now Israel reaps the poisonous fruit they had created and nurtured, padan muka, wakakaka

    2. Ah Mok can't handle the truth.

Nobody needs to pretend the Israelis are angelic or nice.

They may well be extremely evil..wakakaka akakaka... but there is no objective evidence Yasser Arafat's death was by anything other than natural.

Malaysia defends decision to host Israeli delegation

Date of publication: 15 February, 2018

Malaysia has come under fierce criticism for allowing a high-level Israeli delegation to visit the Muslim-majority country. A high-level Israeli delegation set to visit a UN conference in Kuala Lumpur has caused outrage in the Muslim-majority country, prompting Malaysia to defend the decision on Thursday.

Anifah Aman, the Malaysian foreign minister said that as host of last week's international forum on urban development, Malaysia had no choice but to allow all UN member states to take part.

Malaysia holds no diplomatic ties with Israel and is a strong supporter of Palestine.

Malaysia says it won’t let in any Israeli delegates for sporting or other events
After barring Israeli swimmers from July Paralympic qualifying event, FM says cabinet has affirmed widened ban in solidarity with Palestinians.

Malaysia’s foreign minister said Wednesday that the government will not budge over a ban on Israeli athletes in a para swimming competition and has decided that the country will not host any events in the future involving Israel.

Malaysia, a strong supporter of the Palestinian cause, is among the predominantly Muslim countries that do not have diplomatic relations with Israel. The government has said Israeli swimmers cannot join the competition in eastern Sarawak state in July, which serves as a qualifying event for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.
