Bouquets not just brickbats

MM Online - Transport Minister defends Mavcom after defunct airlines demand closure:

SEPANG, June 28 — All actions taken by the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) so far have been in line with existing rules and regulations, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said today.

This was in response to allegations brought forward by two privately-owned charter airlines, Eaglexpress Air Charter Sdn Bhd and Suasa Airlines Sdn Bhd, which demanded that Mavcom be shut down for hindering the growth of the local aviation industry.

“Airlines have to comply with regulations and conditions, so if Mavcom has made any decision, they have to stand by it.

“I was also briefed that all action taken was in line with the regulations. If they feel they were unfairly treated, then its up to them to take any further actions,” he said.

Well said, Minister. I was worried that the new government might have felt compelled to do what some industry blokes out there believe you would or could likely want to do, sweeping everything clean with a new broom regardless.

But go by rules and regulations and you would be fine. Good job!

Wakakaka, yes, my job is not to just tear down ministers but also to praise those who stand by their staff when those staff have been doing things by the rules and regs.

  1. Yes but do we need to pay him 80 grand a month? Basically MAVCOM is a souped up Customer Complaints Department. He's a retired General, no Marketing or Commercial background. But technical and discipline top notch. Put him in charge of Airline, Airplane and Air Traffic Control Safety.

    3. TF already been "cleansed" by PH holy water. He can't go anywhere else than Malaysia because Indian authorities have put out an extradition order for him. If he lands in a wrong country that has extradition agreement with India, he's dead.

    1. Lokeloke would have been LGE & LKS ball carriers, but alas they are ball-less, so he can only be their water carrier.

  4. We don't need a bloated bureaucracy like Mavcom, with an overpaid CEO.

Commercial disputes between passengers and airlines (there aren't really that many) can be handled by an Aviation Consumer affairs office.

The Transport Ministry has its own Civil Aviation section. Major disputes between Civil Aviation players should be handled by MOT itself.
DCA regulates safety and coordination of flight schedules.

Why do we need Mavcom ?

  5. Civil Aviation players will enter flights based on market economics, and they will exit based on market economics.
What exactly do we need MAVCOM to interfere with ?

Safety is a very important matter, not under MAVCOM.
