Hulu Selangor's Chinese

The Malaysian Insider - MCA turns to Najib after Chinese shut-out

Malaysiakini - Intense battle for Chinese votes [more appropriate title should have been: Intense battle by MCA for Chinese votes]

The MCA has virtually admitted the Chinese votes in Hulu Selangor have been lost to Pakatan.

A typical local MCA comment: "It's not easy for us. Every time we enter a new village, we got scolded. Therefore, we have to improve our strategy by getting more leaders from the MCA divisions throughout the country to help us."

They are also crying out for Najib to win the Chinese votes.

Next, they will appeal to Najib to choose their election candidates. WAIT, sorry about that – my bad. UMNO has already decided for MCA who their leaders should be, so it's automatic that in the next general election, the MCA candidates will be a la Kamalanathan.

  4. Naughty, naughty.
Not for want of trying. But it's a known fact, majority Chinese will not vote for BN. Only Malay will vote for Chinese and Indian BN candidates.
Chinese voted for PAS because it is in Pakatan.
Not for Pakatan but for DAP. Let's be honest about it.

  5. 'BN was not behind Bakar Arang's defection' .
    Wed, 21 Apr 2010 12:02 . .By Athi Shankar

ALOR STAR: Barisan Nasional has nothing to do with the sudden exit of Bakar Arang assemblyman Tan Wei Shu from PKR, said a Gerakan youth leader here today.

Kedah Gerakan youth wing chief Tan Keng Liang also refuted PKR’s claims of a BN plot to usurp the state administrative powers from current Pakatan Rakyat state government via defections.

He said he could not see any evidence or whatsoever to substantiate PKR allegation that BN was conspiring with Pakatan state representatives to the overthrow the Kedah government in ala-Perak style.

He dismissed allegation that BN was also instrumental for Lunas state assemblyman Mohammad Radzhi Salleh to leave PKR in August last year and become an independent assemblyman.

“It’s absurd to suggest that BN was behind the defections of Wei Shu and Radzhi from PKR.

“If it really wanted to usurp state powers, BN could have plotted for five or six-man swoop at one go.

“Why should it plot for one after one, that too so far between? Keng Liang asked.

Wei Shu’s defection has left the ruling Pakatan coalition with 20 state seats, comprising PAS 16, PKR three and DAP one, in the 36-seat Kedah legislative assembly.

BN has 14 state seats (all Umno) while two more - Radzhi and Wei Shu are independents.

To usurp Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak’s administration, Umno would need another three seats, besides the backing of Radzhi and Wei Shu.

    Claims of secret meetings

In the wake of Wei Shu’s departure last week, PKR state chief Ahmad Kasim and Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul accused BN of engineering the defection and plotting an eventual downfall of the PAS-led state government.

Ahmad even claimed that Wei Shu had secret meetings with BN/Umno agents and PKR turncoat Radzhi for few months prior to his departure.

Keng Liang said PKR should stop resorting to the same lame excuse of ‘BN/Umno conspiracy’ for defections of its representatives.

“PKR leaders should first ask why only their reps are defecting, not others.

“Except for Jelapang state representative Hee Yit Foong, who left DAP, all other Pakatan defectors are from PKR,” he pointed out.

Wei Shu and Radzhi aside, PKR has been rocked with defections by Perak assemblymen Mohd Osman Jailu (Changkat Jering) and Jamaluddin Mat Radzi (Behrang); Port Klang assemblyman Badrul Hisham Abdullah; and parliamentarians - Zahrain Mohd Hashim (Bayan Baru), Tan Tee Beng (Nibong Tebal) and Mohsin Fadzli Samsuri (Bagan Serai).

Kulim–Bandar Baharu parliamentarian Zulkifli Nordin also became an independent after being sacked by the party last month for misconduct.

Apart from the elected representatives, former PKR secretary-general Salehuddin Hashim and former Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin have also left the party.

Keng Liang raised a question on “why was it so easy to entice PKR reps, not others.”

He noted that both Radzhi and Wei Shu have cited lack of confidence on PKR leadership was the main reason for their party exit.
