Ng Yen Yen's 700 year-old Chinese temple - who was the bumiputera?

Today the New Straits Times in its news article 700-year-old Gua Musang temple to become tourist site reported (extracts):

The oldest Chinese temple in the country, located in Kampung Pulai here, will be promoted as a new tourist destination through the Cuti-Cuti Malaysia campaign.

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said it was high time for the 700-year-old temple to be promoted to the world and thus lure more tourists to the place.

But … but … but … didn't Parameswara (or Iskandar Shah) only come to Malacca around 1400 CE to form the first Malay sultanate of Malacca, just a mere 600 years ago?

I wonder whether Ng Yen Yen has been hinting that the Chinese were the earlier ‘bumiputeras’, by at least 100 years before Parameswara and his descendants and followers set foot here in Malaya?

  1. Ng Yen Yen won't know history, pardon her. She is perhaps just beating around the bushes for her tourism projects and hopefully one of the bushes she beat has a snake crawling out... she is uselss as a tourism minister, period!

On your point about Parameswar coming after a Chinese temple... hmmm looks like I am also a Bumiputra oledi...

  2. When Zheng He came to Malacc, he has the option to give the Emperor's seal to a non-Malay, but he didn't he gave it to a Malay Sultan. So the issue on Bumiputera has long settled by the Chinese Emperor.

  3. Kedah/Langkasuak existed much earlier than Malacca, possibly in the 3rd century. there was also srivijaya.

Malacca definitely was not the first Malay kingdom on the Peninsula.

  4. You can bet your rotten underwear that Utusan Malaysia is going to print an editorial that the 700 year-old Chinese temple was originally a mosque converted into a temple by some slant-eyed chinamen

  5. Yen Yen made a fundamental error. It was a Buddhist temple, not a Chinese Temple.

People in those days were either Buddhist, Hindus or pagans.

    Not all Buddhists are Chinese.

  8. The longer the existence of Utusan and Umno governing this nation, the worse the image Malaysia is projecting to the world.

Utusan and Umno may not have realised that, but a lot of people in other countries have regarded Malaysia as a low class country.

Jaguh kampung but a joker to the world indeed.

But our lady friend has so much on her mind lately, from probably renewing her PR application to keeping Uncle Chua at bay.
