Carpe diem Najib?

The Malaysian Insider - Royal Commission to probe MACC

PUTRAJAYA, July 22 — The Cabinet today took the only option available and agreed to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the suspicious death of DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock.

It also ordered the lead investigator of the graft probe against Selangor Pakatan Rakyat (PR) executive councilors reassigned, in what is an effective suspension of duties.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the commission would look into the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation procedures and whether Teoh Beng Hock’s human rights were violated, giving in to the tremendous public outcry.

Speaking at a press conference here, Datuk Seri Najib Razak also said that an inquest to be presided over by a magistrate will begin next week to investigate Teoh’s death.

He also pledged that the outcome of the ongoing police probe would be announced to the public.

“I will inform Teoh’s family of the outcome of the investigations,” said Najib.

Najib Razak will be a hero if he becomes the first national leader to 'solve' a death in custody, ensure justice for the ordinary citizen is possible and purge the rot in the public system.

It's his call.

In everyone's life time, an opportunity may arise that, if seized, may make a sea change, even though this one for Najib has been as a result of a senseless tragedy. Be that as it may, I hope he takes it gratefully.

Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero.
Seize the day and place no trust in tomorrow.

  2. "The police also asked if Teoh was a smoker perhaps insinuating that he might have gone to a window to smoke and fell," said another lawyer, Eric Tan who is also representing the family.

  3. Happy?
Please accept whatever verdict that the Commission comes out with.
If its found Teoh did himself in, please accept too.
I relly do not see the need for a Commission except to pander to the opposition.
LGE is even dictating who the members should be.
There's anther exco who is suing for the misconduct in interrogation by the MACC?
This did not bode well for a clean transparent government we are clamoring for.
At interrogation stage, so much brouhaha. Enough already.
If you are innocent, there's nothing to be fear.

  7. The Inquiry's scope is limited only to the procedures and methods used by MACC, not cause of death, which will be the scope of an Inquest.

MCA, Gerakan and MIC all clamoured for a Royal Commission to look in the cause of death but in the cabinet today, they voted instead for one with limited scope.

I think Koh Tsu Koon and Ong Tee Keat owe the people an explanation.

I knew these fellas will shortchange the public...

  10. it's not even a suicide, given he's going to marry and be a father soon. as for physical evidence, if it's suicide, did the window was closed or it's opened after the deceased jumped out from the window. the window is not slide type or side open but with the hinge at top edge. you need to open it at great angle and to stand at the ledge and leap, given the deceased head direction is away from the building and distance the body lies. plus, who wants to suicide in such difficult way like squeeze out of small opening.

  11. “Well-placed sources and officials close to the MACC said Teoh was “manhandled and threatened” by investigators during a 10-hour interrogation as part of a political conspiracy to bring down opposition leaders, led by Anwar Ibrahim, and to implicate them for alleged misuse of funds.

When he refused to do so, the officers dragged him to a window on the 14-story building and threatened to throw him out,”said the source who was not authorized to speak to media.”

I disagree! Was Najib a "hero" when he shifted the blame for the Altantuya murder to the two hapless policemen??? For sending his devoted followers to the gallows and betraying their trust in him, he is the worst kind of coward to me!! The MACC is a dedicated follower of UMNO and Najib, and they were trying their level best to do in Selangor what they did in Perak: to bring about the collapse of the Selangor government, which they hoped to do in Selangor through dubious and inhumane interrogation methods and torture, so that false "evidence" of corruption could be gleaned from the Chinese members of the DAP and PKR. Oh my! Those guys were willing to do ANYTHING for Najib! Najib should award them medals or datukships for trying so hard! So, any attempt to betray the MACC's trust on him by shifting the blame for Teoh's murder to some devoted but hapless MACC folks, would not turn Najib into a hero. These small fry were merely following orders, and why should they be blamed if the big fish -- the real criminals -- are free to go on doing their various misdeeds, and to rule the country, even?

Do you have proof of what you are claiming here ? that Najib shifted the blame to the two UTK guys ? And are you saying that even before the investigation finishes and the RCI makes its hearing , you are already saying the MACC is responsible ?

  15. The last sentence of Anonymous 10:22 am's message is very telling: "Go dig your grave." Tells you a lot about UMNO's mentality and that of their supporters, doesn't it?: Well, if you can't fight your enemies by using arguments, just kill them off!
