Tree of democracy

I stood silently for years
Seeing all and hearing all
Though saying but naught
Whispering only to the wind

No one looks at me for long
But they huddle beneath me
As I stretch gently over them
Providing relief from the sun

Sometimes the rain tickles
My green fronds teasingly
And I could only smile back
At its many wet sweet kisses
Something strange happened
Yesterday when democracy
Sought sanctuary under me
In the shade I spread around

A man in resplendent gown
Of black and gold, with dignity
Call his group to official order
Made me feel like Yggdrasil

Now, many would come to me
Staring, smiling & even touching
When once they just walked by
I’ll always remember 03 03 09
