September 16 - shall Malaysians 'rise above their goodness'?

I have to confess I like Nathaniel Tan, who writes at periodic intervals for Malaysiakini. He is a nice earnest young man who is apparently sincere in the politics he believes in, and in the man he reckons will deliver (on 916) wakakaka ..... incidentally I share with him some of his former beliefs BUT definitely, absolutely and irrevocably not his latter, wakakaka again.

Nathaniel used to work for Anwar Ibrahim – I don’t know what’s that political relationship now but you may bet he’s an Anwar Ibrahim supporter. He has just written for Malaysiakini an article titled Sept 16: What will 'cornered animal' BN do?

The title itself tells you where his political sympathies lie. To him, UMNO is the cornered animal just because Anwar has been boasting about katak-fication, whereas (again according to Nat Tan) Anwar who fled to the Turkish Embassy had merely dropped in for coffee at the ‘invitation’ of the Ambassador, wakakaka.

Sometimes I feel sad that a bright young man like Nathaniel can be so easily bewitched by a renowned snake oil salesman who will promise anyone anything so long as it serves His Brahma-ic Majesty to ascend the political throne.

Mind you, notwithstanding his bias for Anwar Ibrahim, Nathaniel wrote a number of truths in his article. He reckons UMNO may be about to turn nasty towards Anwar Ibrahim, and enumerated the various possibilities.

But he overstretched himself when he alluded to the possibility of political assassination. He wrote: Assassination, in all honesty, is probably still a bargain as well. Yes, there will be a massive uproar, Anwar will be martyred, and discontent will reach unprecedented levels. Yet, at the end of the day, police investigations will be inconclusive, Anwar will be gone, and Pakatan becomes eminently vulnerable.
I don’t believe Malaysian politics would ever sink down to such a level ..... racial riots (chop up a few Chinamen or Indians), yes ..... but political assassination of an UMNO or former UMNO bloke, absolutely no ..... there is a line drawn in the sands of the heartland that won’t ever forgive the person responsible for that. The assassin might as well politically assassinate himself.

The only assassination which occurred in political circles (UMNO) but mind you, not due to political reasons, was one that occurred many many years ago in Negeri Sembilan. The killer was pissed off with his fellow UMNO bloke for bonking his sister. He shot him. ‘Twas a crime of passion or honour. I wonder whether he aimed at the victim’s dick? Wakakaka!

Then, Nathaniel mulled over the possibility of another May 13. Yes, that could be possible but economically speaking, today such a genocidal act would be like UMNO cutting its own nose to spite its face.

Nathaniel was 95% correct when he said: One of the few factors generating resistance for BN/Umno to embark on any 'adventurous' tactics is the lack of unity amidst its top leadership. Ever since March 8, Umno leaders especially have had to fight battles on multiple fronts, exhausting their already stretched resources.
I haven't awarded him 100% because the UMNO disunity started way before 08 March (BTW, why must Nathaniel or Malaysiakini put the date in American style – I dislike this as much as I do the Malaysiakini favourite word of ‘helm’ - wakakaka).

In fact it has been this UMNO disunity, rather than the Anwar factor, that made their leaders look as if they are in disarray. Anwar has been having a free ride thus far. Will it come to an end before he makes more unrecoverable inroads (for UMNO)? That's what Nathaniel asked, and so do I.

Then towards the end of his article, Nathaniel put in his bid for Anwar Ibrahim. He wrote appealingly: One controversial option to forestall any such drastic measures by the powers-that-be is for Malaysians to push for a change of government – either by crossovers, or calling for a snap general election (a potential last resort for BN, which is good for democracy, but unlikely to forestall the ruling coalition's demise).
In other words, Nathaniel was justifying and asking the public to support the insidious political frog-hunting which Anwar had successfully demonstrated as his speciality in Sabah in 1994, when he turned Pairin from a democratically elected CM into opposition leader with just a few croaks, yes, that disgraceful deformasi subversion of the ballot box to seize power via the grubby back door.

He apologetically rationalized (fooling his own conscience and values): While less than ideal, these remain some of the few ways we can avoid a descent into chaos and desperation within BN, and by extension within Malaysia.
And before I end, a word from Anwar Ibrahim’s favourite author who had, in Anwar’s own words, succoured him while he was in prison:

...Hie thee hither, that I may pour my spirits in thine ear, and chastise with the valour of my tongue all that impedes thee from the golden round ... (Macbeth 1.5.25-28)

We are told that the ambitious Lady Macbeth (who wants to be Queen) said the above to persuade her husband to ‘rise above his goodness and accept her evil ways’ if he wanted to succeed.

Sounds familiar? It’s certainly vintage anwaristas-ism.

Yeah, I think you're right, I mean that's about as likely to happen as someone, say a Mongolian lady, getting killed then blown up with technical explos... oh hang on wait a minute...

I sometimes wonder if what actually happened to Altantuya was a really really bad misunderstanding - "just get rid of her" can be understood in different ways.

For the case of Anwar, I agree with you that an assassination organized by the state would be outlandish.

But ruling out a state assassination does not rule out a psychotic "pejuang bangsa" Mat Salleh style assassination, what with all this rubbish going around about Anwar wanting to set up US military bases here and whatnot.

Not that this justifies the toppling of the Federal Government, of course.

  6. AAB will not sit still and let Anwar seize power through illegitimate means.

PM have already warned those who planned to topple the government that he will not permit the mandate given by the people to be seized from BN and will not allow those disturbances to continue. AAB is holding the ace and he have two options available, the ISA and emergency law. As a responsible government, he is buying his time and hope that good sense prevail from his opponent.

Otherwise it would be appropriated to use ISA if the taunting and disturbances is not stop. The frequent taunting is unhealthy and it have already affect the country economy and financial capital market.

If the situation deteriorate that PR people demonstrate and riot break out, he will declare emergency and call the army in like Bangkok. Look like it going to be bloody.

Sometimes I wonder why we are taking such immatured but pretentious young punks like Nat Tan or Tian Chua seriously at all.

These guys are from wealthy background and get to study in overseas and then through their papas money and connection, buy their way into national prominence. They have nothing original to say, they just recycle the concepts and quotes taken from their university courses. They have no national perspectives or an understanding of the Malaysian history or the complexities of a multi-cultural society.

Yet they tend to write books and elect themselves as the speaker of the national conscience.

Is this Nat the Kid is/was the aide to Tian Chua, who had notoriously doctored the Altantunya / Najib pictures and then refused to acknowledge that such thing was unethical ? Since Nat the Kid is the so-called Internet expert (he is not even an IT grad btw), could he was the one who actually doctored the photo for his boss Tian Chua (or his boss DSAI) ?

Some years back I was having dinner with some friends when we were rudely invaded by Tian Chia and his posse of young punks during one of the GE campaigning periods. His groups was wearing the New Era college t-shirts and looked mostly in teens and early 20s. I would not have recognised him if he did not introduce himself. They left us to enjoy our dinner when I told what I thought of him, which I am sure would have left a long lasting impression on him.

Later I happped to be in the hall where the result of the election was announced and Tian Chua was soundly beaten. Then the EC guy invited all the candidates a few minutes to say their piece. The winners came and thanked their supporters and voters and ended their speech in less than a minute each. But Tian Chua went on to launch a tirade against BN and then EC and finally ended his 30 min speeach with a long lecture.

For me, that action clearly showed his immaturity and his lack of readiness to be a balanced human being much less a leader. And that he is an exco member is the most developed state in Malaysia is perhaps the depth that the country has sunk recently politically.

Anyway, Anwar has 2 weeks to deliver his promise and it is going to be the longest 2 weeks in his life.

He has clearly miscalculated for giving a definite timeline is a double-edge sword that can cut both ways. And that sword is now is now perched right on his neck. He has used up all his ammunitions and has nothing new to entice the BN MPs and now painting himself into a corner.

To get a mass katak-ing, he needs a big boost. What required is a massive dent on BN govt's popularity triggered by highly unpopular events (big petrol price hike, jailing of DSAI or a highly sensitive religious controversy) are unlikely to happen over the next 2 weeks. Otherwise no BN MP will dare to jump.

What I am afraid that PR chaps will try to manufacture such events to cause chaos in the country. As we are aware, Anwar has the foreign financial support and he might even have access to support of some foreign agencies that could help him to do so. Those who are familiar with the operations of Mossad (Isreali intelligence agency, motto "By the Way of Deception We Wage War") will know that they are masters in such staged events. Though I am not suggesting Anwar has the support of Mossad, I am floating this possibility merely for academic discussion.

Some of you might recall that the sad incident at Bukit Pelandok, Port Dickson some years back when scores died due to Nipah virus. At that time, there was some suspicions that it was a sobotage on TDM's govt to support Anwar by employing biological warfare. It was supposedly to break the solid support the Chinese community gave Dr M in the 1999 GE. How far this is true, I will leave it to you guys to decide.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Talking about the Bukit Pelandok incident, some people had suggested that the biological agent was from the US since it is the only country with such biological warfare capabilities. That the event was localised and the symptoms disappeared quickly and without trace also was cited as an evident of a biological warfare attempt...

    I concur with your thoughts.

One thing that Anwar and his fellow political hyenas have not taken account is the post-coup Malaysia and the reaction of ordinary Malaysians.

No doubt the hard core supporters of PR are firmly for seizing of power through Katakcracy. However, does Anwar seriously think UMNO and BN supporters will take it lying down if he becomes the PM by buying off the MPs ?

Firstly, it would be impossible to rule since it would mean UMNO would close ranks (for once Dr M and AAB would be united by a common goal) and would make life very difficult for him.

Even if Anwar gets a clear majority, the country will be plunged into chaos as BN will not accept the legitimacy of the govt. This would deeply divide the country and I would not be surprised to see KL burning ala Bangkok now.

And the in-fighting within PR will escalate as they will be a mad scramble among the members for positions. Anwar will have an impossible task in forming a govt that is acceptable to all coalition partners (since he had promised everything to everyone).

And the witch hunt that will happen will drive the country into a civil war and drive the investors away in droves.

kittykat do you dunno BUMNO will take the issues of katakrista lying down ? And zombieing a legitimate government voted in , in PRU12 ?
You got it just not that right by saying the road ahead is bumpy , but I reckoned it to the road ahead is is swamped with landmines and IEDs .Also two can play the same game , as BUMNO has plenty of cash reserves and resources for this katakfication process . See who wins in the end ! Say what you want but BUMNO still has their human resources and what we see today in Bangkok as xiean says is going to turn baldy bloody .

  16. int, when I wrote "I don’t believe Malaysian politics would ever sink down to such a level ..." I was following up on an earlier sentence about Nathaniel Tan alluding to the possibility of political assassination, a la the case of Benazir Bhutto, JFK, Indira and Rajiv Gandhi, South Vietnam's president Ngo Dinh Diem and brother Ngo Dinh Nhu, Max Allende, etc, and the failed attempt on the former Taiwanese president and similar attempts on Castro, etc.

Altantuyaa's case was a criminal case of murder, with the motive perhaps being jealousy, fear of continuing bribery or exposure or a situation so badly handled it culminated in murder and the subsequent action to rid the body by use of C4.

The point is Altantuyaa wasn't a political opponent in Malaysia in the sense that Anwar, AAB, Najib or even Tian Chua (wakakaka) are.

The historical fact is that in Malaysia there hasn't been any political assassination, if one discounts the rumours at one time (as one should all unsubstantiated rumours, especially in Malaysia - wakakaka) that Tun Razak was assassinated (by a deadly virus or poison) by the CIA because he was surrounded by communists and/or pro communist advisers.

  18. Hi All

Allow me to make a few more comments. I think that the following are the most likely scenarios in the weeks/months ahead:

Either 1 or 2 will occur
    1. UMNO (especially the AAB-KJ
    faction),in its desperation to
    stay in power, resorts to
    harder and harder "hardball
    politics". This will make the
    political climate in Malaysia
    nastier and nastier.

    2. Anwar's katak strategy works
and there is a change in govt.
    The "declining stockmarket"
    mentality will
occur i.e. UMNO/BN guys who are not hardcore members of the AAB-KJ faction will be desperate to "sell" and there will be an increase in the scale and
    volume of jumps (or attempted
    jumps).

    Phua Kai Lit

P.S. By the way, one of my research interests is the Nipah virus outbreak and I must say that the conspiracy theory bandied about in earlier comments is either the product of a severly demented mind or the product of the most creative and imaginative writer in political fiction/science fiction!

  22. Hi Ktemoc 5:58 am

    Salvador Allende of Chile
    was not assasinated. He committed
suicide as the Chilean Air Force
was bombing the Presidential Palace with its Hawker Hunter jets and as the coup soldiers were breaking into the Palace to "get" him.

Allende was a medical doctor who was also a Marxist. He had been narrowly elected by popular vote into office.

The Chilean coup of 1973 was instigated by the Nixon-Kissinger regime and the CIA. This has been confirmed (and is no wild-eyed conspiracy theory!).

Kissinger actually said this: "I don't see why we need to stand by and watch a country go Communist due to the irresponsibility of its people" (!)

Anyway, post-Fascist Chile now has a Socialist female President
(Michele Bachelet). She herself was arrested and tortured during the Pinochet fascist era.

We usually don't learn so well from history because it's usually someone else's history based upon someone else's experience, but I want you to take a note on the Indonesia experience a few years ago. They have no NEP, and yet who they turn to slaughter when they face economy difficulties?

Its a matter of fact that the Malaysian Chinese survival depend greatly on the local economy. You know dump well it is all hard work. And you conveniently would like to exchange that for the sake of one man ambitions?.

No Kataks are jumping so no effect on the country however for Perak is a different matter altogether .PR government in Perak is hanging by a thread ! with only two majority . 31 for PR and 28 for BN .If the two excos get charged for corruption and their seats become vacant then the equation becomes 29 for PR and 28 for BN . to change gomen you only need one Katak to jump to the other side ! only one ! So under this scenerio you can expect a Snap election !

  31. Hi All

Let's not get all worked up and have our political disagreements degenerate into unproductive name-calling.

I basically see 3 groups of people here:

    1) People who strongly despise Anwar Ibrahim e.g. killer, ktemoc,
xiean, chaptokam etc and think he is the Devil Incarnate

2)People who support Anwar strongly e.g. various anonymous posters who bash people (sometimes very rudely) from Group 1 above

3)People who say that "I'm wary/unsure of Anwar but ..." e.g. myself and kittykat. (There's also Dr Toh Kin Woon who supports the movement for change but not necessarily Anwar himself).

There is no need to demonise your political opponents. You can disagree with someone strongly on political matters but maintain cordial relations and mutual respect(like me and Ktemoc :-) ).
(But you can mischeviously needle them from time to time, right Ktemoc?? :-) )

Xieian, I am not trying to turn black into white. I do truly and honestly see the FIL-SIL regime as a great disaster for Malaysia and see no alternative to an Anwar-led govt in the interim. I feel that strong civil society, NGOs, bloggers etc will keep him in check when he is in power (Group 1 people will strongly disagree with me here :-) )

We just have to "agree to disagree" if we wish to continue to engage in productive political and philosophical debates.

But you sure are nieve to think that another May 13 might be likely. Shows that you were not there at the Bersih Rally on 10 Nov 2007. Had you been there you'd not have made such a statement.

Yes, I may be dreaming but my dream is that our present politically intolerant Malaysian political culture will evolve and mature to resemble West European systems where
people can disagree politically without vigorously demonising the other side, without calling each other vulgar/pornographic names etc and political parties can lose elections and give up political power graciously (e.g. Conservative versus Labour in UK).
Where peaceful political demonstrations do not end up with police truncheons landing on people's heads and so on. THAT would be genuine democracy (and not this semi-democracy/pseudo-democracy we have in Malaysia presently).

The election is over, the people have given BN the mandate to govern the country and five states to PR . The politicians must stop politicking and get on with the real work....period. Simple as abc.

If PR want the Federal government, show the people your capability on the five states and let the people decide come the next election.

The problems are that the PR people want to take a short cut and denial the democratic right of those who vote for BN. If hell break loss, you blame AAB and not the person who cause the trouble. You must be a very fair and reasonable man.

I agree that the scenario of UMNO resorting to assassination is rather far-fetched one that only the disciples of the Pied Piper of Permatang Pauh could conjure up.

But we need to look at the "maksud tersirat" here, since this comes from Nat the Kid, the choirboy of the Great Snake Oil Salesman himself.

Remember the dirty tactic that Anwar resorted to while he was rotting away in prison in 1998 ? He made a bombshell of an accusation in which he claimed that the govt poisoned him using arsenic. After much drama, the claim was proved to be false and the great Chameleon is still very much alive as we speak. Yet he or his cult of political zombies did not see an aota of wrong with that. Nor his fan club among the foreign news organisations, NGOs and government found any reasons to review their blind faith in him or his words.

My view is that Anwar is the real cornered animal since he will have to get the MPs to cross over by 16th Sept to form the world's first Katakcracy. Otherwise Pakatan will start to crack and implode.

I saw LGE's own-goal of a statement that LKS should be the DPM if Anwar becomes the PM. Imagine what would be the reaction of those skull-capped Islamofascists from PAS ? I would imagine these chaps supported UMNO/PAS talks would be given a new lease of life. And did you happen to note that most of the pro-PR statements are coming only from one particular PAS leader ?

Coming back to Anwar's wet dream, since PKR knows the impossibility of the mission, Nat the Kid is floating the possibility of an assassination perhaps to create another drama similar to the arsenic episode. This, PKR, perhaps hope would be the trigger that would break the proverbial camel's back that is BN.

I don't see Anwar getting the required MPs any other way unless some unfortunate event befalls the nation that the rakyat would be highly unhappy of.

He's certainly a lot smarter and more matured than the pariah GLC director cyber-lepak here. No doubt another UMNOputra. Or is it MIC-putra ?

Talking about Nipah virus,I did read through your paper titled "Toward a “Sociology of Disease Outbreaks and Other Health-Threatening Events” in the Asia-Pacific Context".

Obviously you are not a biological warfare expert nor your paper did explore such possibility. As such I wonder how could you could easily dismiss the possibility of a biological weapon attack ? Isn't it academically irresponsible and unethical to make statements without having any factual or empirical data ?

I am no biological warfare expert either but my information comes from some of the most reknown defence and medical research organisations. It is commonly accepted that Nipah virus would make a very good biological weapon. If you have doubts, just "google".

I am not saying this was the case at Bkt Pelandok but the possibility cannot be dismissed as since no one has shown that this wasn't the case. Up to now, the mystery of Nipah virus outbreak was never adequately explained.

Well honestly anwar or abdullah, Malaysia is doomed as they still have people with backward thinking mentality.

Nat the Kid is floating the possibility of an assassination perhaps to create another drama similar to the arsenic episode.

I think they have been floating this idea for quite sometime , just to refresh your memory , When news came out that he was to be arrested for sodomy , he sought refuge or is it have tea with the Turkish Ambassador in the Turkish Embassy , they already floated that there's will be an assassination attempt prompting him to wear a bullet proof vest . Stage for the benefit of the floor and the audience . Thats why I concluded that he should win an Oscar for his great acting .

  47. Nat the Kid a lot smarter ? Just visit his weblog and look at his academic results posted....hardly the kind of results that his rich daddy or Sugar Daddy Anwar would be beaming with pride...

No doubt the cult of political zombies would consider Nat the Kid as the Einstein of Malaysia but the real truth is ugly. This cossetted kid is neither smart nor matured.

Now that we are on the topic, Tian Chua too wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed by a mile. His rich dad from Selandar (no pun intended), Malacaa sent him to Australia where he wasted his family's hard-earned money by lazing around and getting involved in useless activities. I heard he failed his degree and returned home empty handed. Instead of helping his parents he joined the Great Snake Oil Salesman.

This is the same "matured" guy who once bit a policeman and doctored photos and then refused to apologise.

However, don't expect Elizabeth Wong (the Selangor exco member)to say a bad word about Tian Chua....why ? I leave it to your imagination.

Jeff Ooi, the self-proclaimed IT expert is no IT grad at all but a local Univ product in some humanities subject. UPM or UKM I think. But this you would find it in his website or profile...

You are right, I recall that. So the plan is already in motion.

But strange though, I didn't see him wearing bullet proof vests or uttering a word about that "threats" in his ceramah speeches. I wonder why LGE and the rest of the political hyenas didn't lodge a police report...

But I agree, that plot to kill Anwar will refuse and will be sold globally by his buddies in the media and foreign govts....

I recall that once CIA or the US Army was experimenting with the so-called gay bombs. Could these gay bombs will be used this time against the Great Snake Oil Salesman ?

  50. Anonymous 2:28 PM,
Hey Brother, you are all Pendatang Haram

Suggest you go back to kindy . The pendatang you refer to were here longer than you .
a)The Bujang Valley or Lembah Bujang is a sprawling historical complex and has an area of approximately 224 square km. Situated near Merbok, Kedah, between Gunung Jerai in the north and Muda River in the south, it is the richest archaeological area in Malaysia.

Archaeological research indicates that there was an old Hindu-Buddhist empire built here. The name itself is roughly translated into "Dragon Valley". The area consists of ruins that may date more than 1,500 years old. More than fifty ancient tomb temples, called candi, have also been unearthed, many of which were built during the Bujang Valley civilization's heyday. The most impressive and well-preserved of these is located in Pengkalan Bayang Merbok. The Bujang Valley Archaeological Museum is also located here.

Research also indicates that an ancient Hindu-Buddhist kingdom ruled here as early as 300 CE. Relics found at the site are now on display at the archaeological museum. Items include inscribed stone caskets and tablets, metal tools and ornaments, ceramics, pottery, and Hindu icons.
In ancient Kedah there is an important and unmistakably Hindu settlement which has been known for about a century now from the discoveries reported by Col. Low and has recently been subjected to a fairly exhaustive investigation by Dr. Quaritch Wales. Dr. Wales investigated no fewer than thirty sites round about Kedah. The results attained show that this site was in continuous occupation by people who came under strong South Indian influences, Buddhist and Hindu, for centuries.[3]

An inscribed stone bar, rectangular in shape, bears the ye-dharmma formula in South Indian characters of the fourth century A.D., thus proclaiming the Buddhist character of the shrine near the find-spot (site I) of which only the basement survives. It is inscribed on three faces in Pallava script, or Vatteluttu rounded writing of the sixth century CE, possibly earlier.[3]

In Kedah an inscription in Sanskrit dated 1086 CE has been found. This was left by Kulothunga Chola I (of the Chola empire, Tamil country). This too shows the commercial contacts the Chola Empire had with Malaya.[4]

The original Malays came or migrated from the Yunnan Province of China . Best you read this up yourself .

In the Sejarah Melayu why did this suddenly disappeared as a subject in school in 2000, is it because of this findings?

Findings of the team of scientists, archaeologist, historian and other technical staff from the United State, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Yemen & Russia

The graves of Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat, Hang Lekiu and their close friends have been found and their skeletons had been analysed. Their DNA had been analysed and it is found that Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat, Hang Lekiu etc. are not Malay, but Chinese (Islamic Chinese, just like the famous Admiral Cheng Ho). Malacca was a protectorate of China at that time, and the Emperor of China sent the Sultan of Malacca “yellow gifts’ as a token of his sovereignty. The 5 warrior brothers were believed to be sent to help protect Malacca and its Sultan from Siam (Thailand). The Chinese Princess who married Parameswara was named Hang Li Poh .All carried the Hang surname . Until today I have yet to see a Malay with the surname of Hang . Malay names do not carry a surname but their parents names unlike Chinese where their surnames follow thru the generations .

The Sultans of Malacca was directly descended from the Parameswara from Indonesia who fled to Tamasek (Singapore) and then to Malacca. The Malaccan Sulatanate family eventually spread and became the Sultanate of the other Malay states of Perak and Johor. Therefore, the Sultanate royal court and the aristocrats of the Malay sultanates are actually foreigners from Sumatra and Java. Hang Tuah and his friends were the protectors of the Indonesian aristocratic Parameswara family who came to Malaya around 1400 AD and claimed sovereignty of the land.

  51. Hi killer 3:37 pm

About Nipah virus: you can read
Prof Chua Kaw Bing's research on
where it came from and how it spread etc

If you bring up the suggestion (at a public health or medical conference) that
the 1999 Nipah virus outbreak in Malaysia could be due to a biological warfare attack,
you will end up as the object of great amusement by all the experts in the room! Better not try making this suggestion at scientific conferences! :-)

Can you enlightened me on this ! How in the world did the Nipah virus came into being ?

If I am not mistaken I have seen a documentary of this either in Nat Geo or Discovery . What they disclosed is that it spread from Bats in the one of the fruit plantations in Perak . The bat dropping containing the virus was transmitted to horses and pigs . The pigs were sold to Bukit Pelandok and thats where it jump or transmit to humans .

What killer meant and I am interested to know how did it appear out of nowhere to infect the bats or whatever ? I have heard something of this nature too . Nothing can just appear out of nowhere ! Unless its developed in a laboratory !

  54. Phua

I see that you have ignored my questions again.

Whether it was a biological warfare or not, I do not know. And as far as I know no one has provided how the Nipah virus was introduced at Bkt Pelandok. The likehood of the virus spreading from bats to human was very low but yet so many were killed.

Surely anyone who wants to claim it was a bioattack in a scientific conference obviously better provide the evidence. At the same token, if you so conclussively dismiss the possibility (as the work of a demented minds as you claim), then please provide your scientific basis for making such a statement. I am certainly interested in knowing why you had dimissed the possibility.

  55. LOL at Killer & chapto.

You guys are getting so desperate against Anwar that you're tossing everything at him, even tinfoil-hat conspiracy theories about diseases.

Can't blame you guys... after all, your Predictions Of Doom on Anwar have mostly failed to materialize, or end up with an opposite result.

Next up, the Highland Towers disaster was caused by the C.I.A. working with the A.S.S. (Anwar Supersecret Secretagents).

Or the 2004 tsunami was created by the J.E.W.S. (Jewish Electromagnetic Weapons System) to destroy Malaysia's northern coastal regions and turn the voters against Barisan Nasional, our Lord & Messiah. After all, Kedah & Penang fell, right? :P

  56. Hi chaptokam and killer

The scientific consensus about Nipah virus is that it is a
"zoonose" or "zoonotic disease" i.e. an animal disease that can spread to humans. This spread is often due to human intrusion into animal habitats e.g. opening up of jungle or wilderness areas for logging, oil exploration, mining or even agriculture. There is also the trend of ecotourism that increases human activity in wilderness areas. In Africa, the eating of "bush meat" (e.g. including chimp meat! Ugh!) is suspected as a possible mode of transmission of weird diseases such as Ebola virus.

Disease-causing pathogens evolve all the time, thus the appearnce of new diseases. This is one example of evolution. (Also, some diseases may evolve to become less virulent over time e.g. as suspected in the case of scarlet fever).

The scientific consensus is that Nipah virus (closely related to Hendra virus) has fruit bats as the "animal reservoir". It spread to humans by way of pigs that fed on fruits dropped by bats. Fruit trees were grown next to pig farms and this attracted the bats.

No need for conspiracy theories about the Nipah virus outbreak. There are other pathogens that are more useful for biological warfare (for various reasons such as ease of "weaponization") such as smallpox, tularemia and so on.
You can check out this info on the U.S. CDC website.

  57. The CDC published a very detailed epidemiological report on the Nipah virus outbreak in Bukit Pelandok. The original Bat to Pig to Human transmission occured in Perak. The infected pigs were sold to farms in Bukit Pelanduk.

The virus is not new. Field work in the Kinta valley showed the virus was and still is there among bats , where it is quite harmless.

There have probably been some human infections, even deaths before in the past, but hospitals would just give the cause as "unknown infection, probably viral".

Why over a period of months in 1999 the virus became highly capable of infecting humans with a deadly strain, we may never know. Same question with Ebola , Lassa fever, etc. The virus is there all the time. But some unknown combination of circumstances makes the virus susceptible to infect humans in a deadly form.

Anyone who manages to solve that mystery would likely win the Nobel Prize, and potentially save millions of lives as well. The next BIG animal to human virus epidemc is likely Avian Flu.

Forgot to add the bit about smuggling of sick/infected pigs out of Perak.

Some people in Singapore also died
from Nipus virus. Handled infected pigs or carcases imported from Malaysia.
