Denmark and Greenland both hailed the deal and said they would sign it on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York next week.

WASHINGTON:
US President Donald Trump said Friday that he had struck a deal with Denmark to give Washington “permanent control” over Greenland’s security that would bar Russia and China from setting up bases in the Arctic territory.

Since returning to the White House in January 2025, Trump has repeatedly insisted that Washington needed to control Greenland for strategic reasons, alarming Nato ally Denmark and sparking fierce pushback from the alliance.

Denmark and Greenland — an autonomous territory controlled by Copenhagen — both hailed the deal and said they would sign it on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York next week.

“I am pleased to announce that the United States of America has entered into an Agreement with The Kingdom of Denmark, and Greenland, that gives the United States permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland,” Trump said on his Truth Social network.

“From now on, no US adversary can EVER have a base in Greenland, have a military presence in Greenland, or make sensitive investments in Greenland, without our express written approval.”

The 80-year-old said it was an “‘Infinite Life’ Agreement, there is no end!” and said Washington would immediately start building up a large military presence in the territory.

‘Good agreement’

Trump has repeatedly warned about Russia and China trying to establish a foothold in Greenland amid a strategic battle for supremacy in a warming Arctic, and the State Department left no doubt that they would not be allowed to do so.

“This agreement guarantees that China and Russia cannot have a base in Greenland, they cannot send troops to Greenland, and the necessary mechanisms are in place to prevent investment in sensitive sectors,” a State Department official said.

At the Davos economic forum this past January, Trump reached a purported deal with Nato secretary general Mark Rutte over the future of Greenland, the terms of which have remained vague.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen had said Monday that she was “optimistic” that ongoing discussions with the US and Greenland since January could resolve the dispute.

On Friday, she said she was “pleased that there is a prospect of a good agreement for Greenland, the Kingdom of Denmark and the United States,” adding that it was “good for Nato and Europe.”

Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said the deal with the US “strengthens” the territory’s security.

Nato tensions

Trump gave no details about how the deal would work, and it was not clear if it was linked to or substantially different from the Rutte deal.

But several media outlets have reported that the US wants to open three new military bases in southern Greenland, in addition to the Pituffik base it already has in the north of the territory.

A 1951 defence pact, updated in 2004, already allows Washington to ramp up troop deployments and military installations on the island provided it informs Denmark and Greenland in advance.

At the height of the crisis, Trump would not rule out using force to seize the territory of 57,000 inhabitants, sowing anxiety within the EU and Nato.

Since then, tensions have cooled somewhat, and in an apparent move to assuage Trump, Nato launched a new mission to bolster security in the Arctic.

🚨 SHIN BET CHIEF TO HAMAS: “THERE IS NO EXPIRATION DATE”

Shin Bet chief David Zini issued a direct warning to Hamas leaders in Gaza and abroad:

“There is no place in the world that is too far, there is no forgiveness, and there is no expiration date.”

“We have pursued, we are pursuing, and we will continue to pursue you until the last of you.”

Zini said Israel’s security services will reach those responsible for the October 7 massacre “in the depths of the tunnels, in hidden command centers, and in every corner of the globe.”

  3. So No Need To Pay Denmark $1 Trillion…….

Why Greenland and Trumps Greenland deal is so important

    -Arctic sealanes
    -Golden dome
-Critical resources like rare earth minerals

◾️on the map you can see the retreating icecap has opened shippinglanes for periods of the year. Greenland offers a place to monitor and restrict Russian and Chinese naval and submarine movements through the strategic North Atlantic sea corridor (known as the GIUK gap). And it complements Alaska to exert strategic control of the Arctic waters.

◾️The map also shows why Greenland is crucial for Trumps golden dome project, Us missile shield.
▶️Polar Flight Path: Sits directly under the shortest trajectory incoming missiles would take over the North Pole to hit the U.S.
▶️Safe Interception: Allows intercepting missiles in space so toxic debris falls over Arctic ice instead of American cities.
▶️Satellite Tracking Hub: Offers frequent, direct communication with polar-orbiting satellites tracking incoming threats.
▶️Perfect Laser Conditions: Features cold, dry, ultra-clear air that optimizes advanced laser and sensor tracking.
▶️Existing Radar Base: Leverages the Pituffik Space Base to feed early-warning radar data straight into the defense shield.

◾️Greenland holds some of the world's largest untapped reserves of rare earth minerals, including critical metals like lithium, titanium, cobalt, and nickel. These minerals are vital for advanced electronics, electric vehicle batteries, and defense technology. Acquiring influence over these reserves reduces U.S. reliance on China, which currently dominates the global supply chain.

  4. Beyond the 1951 agreement…..

I know the 1951 deal, this adds some things though:

    - ban on bases from adversaries
    - full US control over Greenland security, under the existing 1951 deal extra US bases still need Greenland approval. And the host nation can still restrict US operations under the old deal.
    - veto right over sensitive investment( aka it keeps china and russia out of the critical resources like rare earth minerals
    - and it will have an infinite lifetime duration

  5. Excellent Move.

NEW: 🇺🇸🇺🇳 The United States officially withdrew from the UN Human Rights Council

Cited reasons include alleged bias against Israel, hypocrisy, and ‘support for terror regimes’ like Iran.

They still haven’t condemned IRGC for murdering 40k citizens early this year.

  7. Canada, please learn from Norway and Iceland….

Norway and Iceland are not in the European Union (EU) primarily because they want to protect their lucrative fishing and agricultural industries and maintain total national sovereignty.

Both nations have prosperous, stable economies built on natural resources and do not feel the need to join the political bloc. Instead, they use alternative agreements to trade with Europe.

Fish and seafood make up a massive share of exports for both countries (around 40% for Iceland). Joining the EU would force them to sign away control under the EU's Common Fisheries Policy, allowing foreign EU fleets access to their rich local waters.

Agriculture: Both countries heavily subsidize and protect their small, rural farms against foreign competition. Joining the EU means adopting the Common Agricultural Policy, which would dismantle these national protections.

Public Referendums: Norwegian voters explicitly rejected EU membership in public referendums in 1972 and 1994. Iceland has also repeatedly shelved or voted against pursuing full membership bids due to deep public skepticism.

Control over Laws and Currency: Staying out allows both nations to keep their own currencies (the krone) and control their own domestic laws and trade policies without answering to Brussels.

  8. 🚨 IDF MOVES TO RELEASE OCT. 7 ATROCITY FILM AMID ‘NAZA’ FALLOUT

The IDF is advancing plans to publicly release its 47-minute compilation of Hamas’s Oct. 7 massacre footage, according to Channel 12.

Netanyahu and the defense establishment reportedly back the move as Israel pushes back against the “NAZA” documentary’s allegations over AI-assisted strikes in Gaza.

The IDF says it “categorically rejects” the documentary’s allegations and stresses strike decisions are made “by human personnel only… and not by artificial intelligence.”

The Oct. 7 compilation has until now only been screened behind closed doors.

  10. “Trump’s new deal with Greenland is exactly the same as the old one!”

Not true at all. Key new details:

Duration: The 1951 deal lasted only as long as NATO existed and Greenland remained part of NATO. Trump’s 2026 deal lasts indefinitely, even if NATO implodes or Greenland becomes independent.

New Military Bases: In the 1951 deal, the U.S. could establish “defense areas” in Greenland only if Denmark gave the go-ahead. In Trump’s 2026 deal, the U.S. can establish military installations as it sees fit, with or without Denmark’s approval.

Third Countries: In the 1951 deal, Denmark retained the right to allow foreign nations, like China, to establish a presence in Greenland. Trump’s 2026 deal explicitly forbids foreign nations from doing anything in Greenland without U.S. approval.

Foreign Investments: The 1951 deal placed no restrictions on foreign nations making investments in Greenland, such as port build-outs, critical mineral mining, or undersea cable installations. Trump’s 2026 deal requires U.S. approval before foreign nations can invest in Greenland.

Simply put, Trump’s new Greenland deal is an absolutely massive geopolitical accomplishment, further establishing America’s dominance over the Western Hemisphere.
