Donald Trump said earlier on Monday in an interview that JD Vance was on his way to Islamabad; that he would be there later on Monday or early on Tuesday for the next round of talks.
US officials then quickly pointed out that JD Vance was still in Washington.
The intention was that he’d leave on Tuesday with Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, and they would be in Islamabad, but only if they thought there were going to be talks.
It’s a bad look to have your vice president fly all the way to Islamabad and then find out that the other side doesn’t turn up.
So the talks are on hold at the moment, until we get some clarification, some public-facing movement that JD Vance is actually on his way to Islamabad.
That, perhaps, will give us an indication that the Iranians are going to be in Pakistan.
For the time being, there’s no intention of his being there if there’s no chance of a deal.
But in these occasions, a lot of work goes on behind the scenes that we simply don’t see.

- US President Donald Trump, however, insists that a deal with Iran will happen “relatively quickly” and says the naval blockade of Iranian ports will continue until an agreement is reached.
- The US State Department has confirmed that Israel and Lebanon will be holding a second round of talks in Washington, DC, on Thursday.
- Israel continues to bombard southern Lebanon, wounding six people in an air attack on the town of Qaaqaaiyet El Jisr in recent hours, and demolishing homes in the town of Khiam in violation of a 10-day ceasefire.

The most significant development is the single source Saudi analyst report of the house arrest of President Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Araghchi, and House Speaker Ghalibaf by the Revolutionary Guards.
The indicator that adds plausibility to Mansour Almalik’s report is Potus’s own TS stmnt saying “Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal.”
A third discriminator is Israeli analyst for i24, Ariel Oseran, pointing out that it is the IRGC-owned Tasnim News Agency that has responded to Potus’s statement rather than state broadcaster IRIB (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting). Around 40 minutes ago they stated tersely “Despite Trump's announcement of extending the ceasefire, Iran has not yet officially made any public statement on the matter. Iran's position will be officially announced subsequently.” The last sentence is notable for the reason Oseran cites: the IRGC owned Tasnim is now positioning itself as the official public outlet for Iran’s positions.

Trump just blew up every amateur take on Iran with one sentence on Truth Social, and most people still pretend they don't understand what happened.
The mainstream media went blue yelling that the Iran deal had collapsed. Then 30 minutes ago, Trump posted: "The Government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so."
That is the president of the United States telling you, in writing, that the regime in Tehran is split. He did not post it as a guess. He posted it as an explanation for what he is doing next.
And what he is doing next is the part that rearranges the whole board.
Trump is not bombing. Trump is not walking away. Trump just extended the ceasefire, kept the naval blockade running, and announced the American military will hold off on strikes until the Iranian government, in his words, comes up with a unified proposal.
Translation: The Iranian hardliners inside the Revolutionary Guard just pushed the Iranian negotiators out of the room.
