Pro-Israel Malaysians should lose their citizenship, said controversial column in Berita Harian
A BERITA Harian commentary will spark debate after suggesting that Malaysians who appear to support Israel’s actions in Gaza should have their citizenship revoked.
Writing under the column Belalang, the author criticised a small group of Malaysians who, in their social media comments, were seen mocking or belittling the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) volunteers detained by Israeli forces.
“A small group of Malaysians not only belittled but even mocked the struggle of volunteers who had to share food and risk their lives in the face of the Israeli military’s guns,” the article said.
The column described such individuals as “blind in both eyes and hearts” and compared them to “snakes coiled in a mat” whose venom could erode societal values.
“Those with such forked tongues, willing to take the side of the oppressor, should have their citizenship revoked altogether,” it added. The writer argued that while the world rallies behind Palestine, a few Malaysians openly side with Israel despite its alleged genocide and war crimes in Gaza.
The columnist also noted that while US President Donald Trump’s statements may be persuasive, they are insufficient to ensure peace.
The writer supported Colombia’s proposal at the UN General Assembly for deploying international peacekeepers to monitor the ceasefire’s implementation, suggesting that Malaysia and ASEAN should raise the issue during Trump’s upcoming visit for the ASEAN Summit. —Oct 5, 2025

Seorang warganegara boleh hilang kewarganegaraannya melalui dua cara iaitu:
a) Individu tersebut menolak kewarganegaraannya
b) Kerajaan negara tersebut melucutkan kewarganegaraan individu tersebut atas sebab-sebab yang berikut:
(i) Seseorang individu telah menjadi warganegara asing.
(ii) Seseorang warganegara membuktikan dia tidak setia melalui percakapan tindakannya.
(iii) Seseorang warganegara itu telah menderhaka terhadap kerajaan semasa perperangan dengan berniaga atau berhubung serta menjalankan urusan dengan musuh negara.
(iv) Seseorang warganegara yang memperoleh kewarganegaraan secara pendaftaran telah dihukum penjara tidak lebih daripada 12 bulan atau didenda tidak kurang daripada RM5.000 tanpa pengampunan bagi kesalahannya.
(v) Seseorang warganegara yang bermastautin di negara asing melebihi 5 tahun secara berterusan tanpa mendaftar diri di Pejabat Konsul Persekutuan.
Mana-mana kewarganegaraan yang ingin menolak kewarganegaraan persekutuannya mestilah memenuhi syarat-syarat yang berikut :
a) Berumur 21 tahun dan ke atas.
b) Sempurna akalnya.
c) Dia warganegara lain atau hendak menjadi warganegara lain.

-No such clause in the Malaysian Constitution. A Citizen by Naturalisation can have their citizenship revoked if committing Acts of treason. Such acts are also covered under the Penal Code, with possible severe punishments if found guilty, including Death Sentence.
Similarly one cannot remove citizenship from 10 million Isaacs which they have had since 1948.
