Zakir Naik Hospitalised In Malaysia With Possibly 'Incurable Viral Illness': Sources To News18
Sources suggest that the case is being deliberately kept under wraps due to its religious, political, and diplomatic sensitivities

Zakir Naik, the controversial Islamic preacher wanted in India on charges of money laundering and inciting religious extremism, has been admitted to Sunway Medical Centre, a leading private hospital located in Petaling Jaya, near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, sources told CNN-News18 on Saturday.
According to multiple media reports and local sources, Naik is undergoing treatment for what is believed to be a serious, possibly incurable viral illness. While official confirmation regarding his condition remains unavailable, sources suggest that the case is being deliberately kept under wraps due to its religious, political, and diplomatic sensitivities.
Sources said Sunway Medical Centre is among Malaysia’s most advanced tertiary care hospitals, known for its specialisations in infectious diseases, oncology, cardiology, HIV care, and metabolic disorders. The facility is also reputed for providing VIP-level medical services and has been involved in treating several high-profile patients in the past
Naik, who has been residing in Malaysia since 2016, has been granted permanent residency by the Malaysian government. Indian authorities have been seeking his extradition for years in connection with investigations into alleged terror funding, hate speech, and radicalisation, particularly targeting youth through his sermons and satellite TV channel.
Reports indicate that Naik had previously been treated in Malaysia for other health complications, including metabolic conditions. However, his current hospitalisation has drawn increased attention, particularly given the secrecy surrounding his medical status and the hospital’s refusal to comment.
Sources familiar with the matter say that the hospital administration and government officials are treating Naik’s case with exceptional discretion, owing to his public religious profile and the potential for political repercussions in both Malaysia and India.
There has been no official statement from Naik, his family, or Malaysian authorities as of yet. Efforts to independently verify the nature of his illness remain inconclusive.
