Tycoon’s son’s drug case: Investigate the Attorney-General’s Chambers, Najib says
FORMER prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak urged the Government to investigate whether there were elements of abuse of power in the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) during the Pakatan Harapan administration.
He made the call following ex-AG Tan Sri Tommy Thomas’ admission that he had reduced tycoon Vincent Tan’s son’s charges over a drug case.
“Why were the drug charges reduced by Thomas? If an ordinary person was found planting between 186 and 20 ganja trees, they will get life sentence or even the death penalty.
“In that case, should the Government probe whether there were elements of abuse of power during the administration of Pakatan and Perikatan Nasional?” he queried, in a Facebook post.
Two days ago, Thomas dismissed allegations by crime buster Twitter holder, Edisi Khas, who claimed that the former had indulged in corruption when handling Tan’s son’s drug case while holding office.
He stated that it was normal in criminal cases when lawyers of the accused submit written representation to the AGC to reconsider the decision to prosecute a case.
“Having studied the representations and the investigation papers, reviewing the relevant provisions and discussion with the case officers, I recall reducing the charges.
“Receiving representations from lawyers and accused, and reducing or dropping charges thereafter are common occurrences at the AGC.
Speak up AGC, Dr M
“I have no access to any documents, records or files maintained by those who prepared the investigation papers,” he was reported as saying.
On that note, Najib trained his guns on his mentor turned nemesis Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for keeping mum on the matter.
“But I’m asking Mahathir, Thomas and the sitting AG Tan Sri Idrus Harun today. Why reduce the charges?
“And please explain on what charges he was supposed to be charged with and what was the reduced charges; from which Section to which Section of the law,” the Pekan MP stated. – Feb 21, 2022
Isn't this just one example of abuse of power associated with the evangelical Christian party? Righteous konon.
